Hi there! I'm A.D. Vick, and I write the kind of stories that make you check under your bed at night... but also maybe want to invite whatever's under there up for a drink. (Don't judge - we all have our types!)
I've always been fascinated by the razor-thin line between seduction and terror, between wanting to run away and being unable to resist drawing closer. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest probably had something to do with it - there's nothing quite like foggy forests and rainy nights to get your imagination spinning tales of both romance and horror. I spent countless hours curled up with everything from classic Gothic romances to modern psychological thrillers, wondering why we had to choose between love stories and ghost stories when the best tales usually had both.
After years of keeping my darker stories locked away in journals (and password-protected files my therapist probably shouldn't see), I finally decided to unleash them on the world. My debut collection, "Tales of Dark Romance and Horror," brings together everything I love about both genres - the burning tension of attraction, the creeping dread of supernatural forces, and characters wrestling with their own inner demons while trying to navigate relationships that might either save or destroy them.
Fair warning: my stories aren't your typical "and they lived happily ever after" fare. Sometimes the monster gets the girl (and sometimes the girl IS the monster). I write about witchcraft and wanderlust, paranormal encounters that leave you questioning reality, and the kind of love that's as dangerous as it is irresistible. Think candlelit rituals gone wrong, ancient curses masquerading as love spells, and relationships that might literally be made in hell.
When I'm not writing, you can usually find me exploring abandoned buildings (for research, I swear), collecting oddities for my cabinet of curiosities, or convincing my cat she's not actually a demon familiar (jury's still out on that one). I live in a creaky old house that's definitely not haunted (okay, maybe a little haunted), surrounded by books about folklore, occult history, and the psychology of fear.
To my readers: thank you for being weird enough to enjoy these twisted tales of love and darkness. There's something incredibly special about finding people who understand that romance doesn't always have to be sweet, and horror doesn't always have to be lonely. Your messages about staying up all night to finish a story (and then being too scared to sleep) make my black little heart happy.
I believe the best stories are the ones that make us uncomfortable in the most comfortable way - the ones that have us rooting for relationships we'd never want for ourselves but can't stop reading about. My characters aren't always good people, but they're always real people (well, mostly people... sometimes they're other things entirely).
Currently, I'm working on new stories that dig even deeper into the shadows where desire and danger dance together. Expect more witchcraft, more forbidden romance, more things that go bump (and maybe something else) in the night. If you like your love stories with a side of existential dread and your horror with a heavy dose of sexual tension, you're in the right place.
Want to join me in exploring the darker side of romance? You can find me on social media where I post about writing progress, share creepy historical facts nobody asked for, and occasionally debate the romantic potential of various supernatural entities. (Listen, some vampires are just hot, okay?)
Remember: life's too short for safe stories. Let's get weird together.
