Hey book lovers! I'm Amelia Jones, and I'm still pinching myself that I get to call myself an author. (No, seriously - sometimes I stare at my book cover and think "Did I actually write that?")
Let me tell you a secret: I never thought I'd write romance. I was that nerdy English lit major who spent way too much time analyzing Jane Austen and dreaming up pretentious literary fiction ideas. But you know what? Pride and Prejudice is basically the original enemies-to-lovers story, and once I embraced that truth, everything clicked into place.
By day, I'm a high school English teacher (cue the horror movie music), which means I spend my mornings explaining why Shakespeare was actually pretty spicy for his time and my evenings writing steamy scenes that would make my students die of embarrassment if they knew. The irony isn't lost on me.
My debut novel "Enemies to Lovers" was born from pure spite, if I'm being honest. I got so tired of reading forced meet-cutes and insta-love that I decided to write the slow burn romance I desperately wanted to read. You know the kind - where the tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife, where every accidental touch feels like electricity, and where the characters fight their attraction until they absolutely can't anymore.
(Fun fact: I wrote most of the book during my planning periods at school, which led to some very awkward moments when colleagues would ask what I was working on. "Oh, just grading papers" became my go-to lie.)
My writing style? Think Jane Austen meets modern rom-com, but with way more cursing and steam. I love writing characters who are smart-mouthed and stubborn, who make terrible decisions for perfectly logical reasons, and who fall in love despite their best efforts not to. There's something magical about taking two people who think they hate each other and showing them (and readers) how thin the line between love and hate really is.
When I'm not writing or teaching, you can find me curled up with my rescue cat (appropriately named Mr. Darcy), drinking way too much coffee, and plotting new ways to torture my characters. I'm a firm believer that the best romances are the ones where you earn that happily ever after - no shortcuts allowed.
To my amazing readers who've supported "Enemies to Lovers" - thank you. Your messages about staying up all night to finish the book, or how you threw your Kindle across the room during That Scene (you know the one), make all those 4 AM writing sessions worth it.
What can you expect from my books? Banter that'll make you snort-laugh at inappropriate moments. Sexual tension that'll have you fanning yourself in public. Characters who are messy and real and fighting their feelings every step of the way. And yes, always a happily ever after - because life is hard enough without sad endings in our romance novels.
I'm currently working on my second book (between grading essays and trying to convince teenagers that poetry isn't torture). If you loved the slow burn of "Enemies to Lovers," just wait until you see what I have planned next. Let's just say it involves a grumpy CEO, a sunshine freelancer, and a fake dating scheme that goes hilariously wrong before it goes oh-so-right.
Want to keep up with my writing adventures (and occasional teaching mishaps)? Follow me on Instagram where I post daily writing updates, behind-the-scenes peeks at my next book, and pictures of Mr. Darcy being judgy. I also have a newsletter where I share exclusive snippets and probably overshare about my caffeine addiction.
Remember: Life's too short for boring romance novels. Let's make enemies fall in love, one book at a time.
XOXO, Amelia
P.S. Yes, I did name my cat Mr. Darcy. No, I will not apologize for it.
