Hey there! I'm Ann-Marie Davis, and I write dark romance that'll probably keep you up way too late and make you question your life choices. (Don't worry—I question mine daily, especially when my characters start doing things I definitely didn't plan for them.)
I never set out to write romance, let alone the darker side of it. Growing up in a small Midwest town where everyone knew everyone's business, I escaped into books. The darker, the better. While other kids were reading Sweet Valley High, I was devouring psychological thrillers and true crime. My mom was convinced I'd either become a detective or a serial killer. (Surprise, Mom! I became a writer instead—though some might argue that's basically the same thing, since I do spend an awful lot of time plotting murders...)
My journey into writing started during the pandemic lockdown when, like everyone else, I was stuck at home with nothing but my thoughts and way too much coffee. I started writing what I thought would be a "normal" romance. You know the type—boy meets girl, they fall in love, happily ever after. But my characters had other ideas. They kept dragging me down darker and darker paths until I finally gave up and let them lead the way.
That's how "Falling with Grace" was born. It's a story about survival, about the monsters we face and the ones we become. When Grace first came to me, she was supposed to be a typical romance heroine. Instead, she turned out to be a survivor with edges sharp enough to cut. Her story isn't pretty—three years of captivity will do that to a person—but it's real. Raw. Sometimes brutal. But there's always hope threading through the darkness, because that's what I believe in: light at the end of the tunnel, even if sometimes it turns out to be an oncoming train.
My writing style? Think Stephen King meets dark romance, minus the killer clowns (though never say never). I write about the beautiful and the brutal, the tender moments between terrible ones. My characters aren't always nice people—sometimes they're not even good people—but they're always real. They mess up, they make horrible decisions, and sometimes they hurt the people they love. But they also fight like hell for their happy endings.
When I'm not torturing my characters (or my readers), I'm probably walking my rescue dog, Luna, who has exactly zero interest in my writing unless I'm using my laptop as a lap warmer she can steal. I live on coffee and true crime podcasts, and I have a terrible habit of starting new projects at 2 AM when any sane person would be sleeping. (My editor hates this about me, but hey, the demons of creativity don't care about normal business hours.)
To my readers: thank you for trusting me with your time and emotions. I know dark romance isn't everyone's cup of tea (or shot of whiskey, which might be more appropriate), but for those of us who like our love stories with a side of darkness, there's nothing better. I promise to always include content warnings, to never sugarcoat the difficult stuff, but also to never leave you without hope.
What can you expect from my books? Complex characters who'll make you angry one minute and break your heart the next. Plots that'll keep you guessing. Spice that'll make you fan yourself. And endings that might not be traditionally "happy," but are always satisfying. (Also, probably some trauma. Okay, definitely some trauma. But we'll work through it together.)
I'm active on Instagram and TikTok, where I post probably too many pictures of Luna, behind-the-scenes peeks at my writing process, and the occasional thirst trap of my book boyfriends. Come say hi! I love hearing from readers, even when you're yelling at me about that plot twist you didn't see coming. (Especially then, actually. Your tears fuel me.)
