The Devil In Blue (A Dark Fantasy Romance)

Hey there, dark souls! I'm Courtney Leigh, and I write the kind of fantasy romance that would make your Sunday school teacher clutch her pearls. (Sorry not sorry, Mrs. Henderson!)
Let me tell you, I never expected to end up writing about seductive demons and morally questionable love interests, but here we are. Growing up in a small town where everyone knew everyone's business, I spent most of my time hiding in the library, devouring every paranormal and fantasy book I could get my hands on. The darker, the better. My mom was convinced I'd grow out of my "spooky phase." Spoiler alert: I didn't.
I started writing stories in middle school, mostly about angsty vampires (it was the Twilight era, okay? Don't judge). But it wasn't until college, when I was supposed to be studying for my psychology finals, that I really started diving into the darker side of romance. There's something intoxicating about exploring those shadowy corners of desire, about creating characters who walk that razor-thin line between salvation and damnation.
My debut novel, "The Devil in Blue," is basically my love letter to every twisted fairy tale I've ever read, mixed with a healthy dose of psychological thriller and a splash of "definitely not for the faint of heart" romance. When I first started writing Briar's story, I knew it wouldn't be for everyone. But you know what? Those are exactly the kinds of books I love most.
I'm a firm believer that the best romances are the ones that make you question everything – your morals, your boundaries, even your own desires. My characters aren't your typical heroes and heroines. They're broken, complicated, and sometimes downright wicked. (Kind of like that ex we all pretend never happened, but way hotter and with supernatural powers.)
When I'm not writing about morally grey demons and the women who fall for them, you can find me binge-watching true crime documentaries, collecting oddities for my cabinet of curiosities (yes, I really have one), or trying to convince my cat she's not actually a demon herself. Spoiler: I'm losing that battle.
My writing process is... chaotic, to put it mildly. I plot major scenes on my wall with color-coded sticky notes (my partner thinks I look like a conspiracy theorist), drink way too much coffee (is there such a thing?), and occasionally forget to eat because I'm so caught up in my characters' drama. But hey, that's what delivery apps are for, right?
What can you expect from my books? Think beauty and beast retellings, but make it dark fantasy. Add a dash of psychological suspense, a healthy dose of steam (the kind that would make your kindle blush), and characters who are definitely going to therapy after all this is over. I write the kind of romance where the line between love and obsession gets real blurry, real fast.
To my readers: thank you for being just as twisted as I am. You're my kind of people. Whether you're new to dark romance or a seasoned veteran who eats red flags for breakfast, I promise to keep pushing boundaries and creating stories that'll keep you up way past your bedtime.
Currently, I'm working on expanding the world of "The Devil in Blue" (because one demon-filled romance is never enough), and I've got some other deliciously dark projects in the works that I can't wait to share with you all. Fair warning: they're not getting any lighter.
Want to join my little coven of dark romance lovers? You can find me on Instagram where I post way too many book aesthetics, writing updates, and pictures of my supposedly-demonic cat. I also have a newsletter where I share exclusive content, sneak peeks, and probably too many details about my latest supernatural obsessions.
Remember: Life's too short for vanilla romance. Let's get wicked together. 🖤
(P.S. Yes, my mom still hopes I'll write a "nice" book someday. Still not happening.)
