Debby Ng

Dark Romance Author

Hey there! I'm Debby Ng, and I write the kind of dark romance that makes your mom clutch her pearls and your best friend text you at 2 AM saying "WHAT did I just read?!" (Don't worry, I get those texts too.)

Writing has always been my escape, ever since I was that quiet Asian kid in the back of the class scribbling stories instead of paying attention to algebra. My parents had... other plans for my future. You know the drill - doctor, lawyer, engineer. But there I was, dreaming up twisted love stories when I should've been memorizing chemical equations. Spoiler alert: I didn't become a doctor. (Sorry, Mom!)

I finally gave myself permission to pursue writing seriously after spending five years in corporate marketing, where I perfected the art of daydreaming during meetings and typing furiously during lunch breaks. My characters wouldn't shut up, especially at night, and eventually I realized they weren't going away until I told their stories.

My debut novel "Captive Love" is my heart on paper - dark, messy, and definitely not for the faint-hearted. It's the story of Cassie and Chance, two broken people who probably shouldn't be together but can't stay apart. She's privileged but manipulative, he's an outsider with demons of his own, and together they create the perfect storm of toxic attraction and raw emotion. I wanted to explore that grey area where love becomes obsession, where control feels like care, and where two damaged people either heal each other or destroy everything in their path.

Fair warning: I don't write gentle heroes or sweet heroines. My characters are complicated, often morally ambiguous, and sometimes downright problematic. They make bad decisions, hurt each other, and don't always learn their lesson the first time (or the second... or the third...). But that's what makes them real to me. We're all a little broken, a little selfish, a little desperate for connection - even when it hurts.

When I'm not writing scenes that make my beta readers send me concerned emojis, I'm probably binge-watching psychological thrillers, drinking way too much bubble tea (it's a problem, I know), or trying to convince my rescue cat that my keyboard is not his personal bed. He's winning that battle, by the way.

I believe romance doesn't always have to be hearts and flowers. Sometimes it's thorns and shadows, and that's beautiful too. My books explore the darker side of love - the possessiveness, the desperation, the all-consuming need that society tells us we shouldn't feel. But we do feel it, don't we? We just don't talk about it at brunch.

If you pick up one of my books, expect: - Morally grey characters who will frustrate you (in the best way) - Steamy scenes that might make you blush on public transport - Complex relationships that blur all the lines - Emotional damage (lots of it) - Endings that aren't always pretty but feel real - Themes that might make you uncomfortable (check those trigger warnings!)

I love connecting with readers who aren't afraid to explore the shadows. You can find me on Instagram sharing writing updates, behind-the-scenes peeks at my current projects, and probably too many pictures of my cat. I also have a newsletter where I spill all the tea about upcoming releases and share exclusive content (and sometimes embarrassing stories about my writing journey).

To my fellow dark romance lovers: thank you for being here. Thank you for understanding that love isn't always pretty, that the best stories sometimes hurt, and that happy endings come in many shades of grey. You're my kind of people.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go write another scene that will probably make my mother question my upbringing. (Love you, Mom! Sorry about not becoming a doctor!)
