Hey there! I'm Emma Healey, and I've always been fascinated by the dark corners of the human mind. (Maybe that's why my characters tend to get themselves into such deliciously twisted situations...)

I never set out to write books that would keep people up at night, but here we are. My journey into writing started when I was just a kid scribbling stories in notebooks, usually about mysterious disappearances and family secrets. Looking back, I probably should've given my parents more cause for concern, but they just called me "creative." Thank goodness for supportive families, right?

After years of working in various jobs (some interesting, some soul-crushing – we've all been there), I finally took the plunge into full-time writing. My debut psychological thriller "Elizabeth is Missing" became an unexpected multi-million copy bestseller, which was both amazing and terrifying. Nothing quite prepares you for seeing your dark little story suddenly everywhere.

Now with my latest book "Sweat" (coming in 2025), I'm diving even deeper into the psychological elements that make us human. It's taut, unsettling, and exactly the kind of story that'll have you questioning everything – and everyone – around you. (Fair warning: you might want to read this one with the lights on.)

My writing style? I love exploring the grey areas between right and wrong, sanity and madness, truth and lies. There's something fascinating about those moments when reality starts to blur, when you're not quite sure who to trust – including yourself. I write the kind of books that make you feel slightly uncomfortable but unable to look away. You know that feeling when you're watching a thriller and you want to yell at the character "Don't go in there!" but you also kind of want them to? That's the sweet spot I aim for.

When I'm not writing (or thinking about writing, or procrastinating about writing), you'll find me walking my dog through the English countryside, usually plotting my next twisted tale. There's something about a misty morning that really gets the dark ideas flowing. My poor dog has learned to ignore my muttering as I work out plot points during our walks.

I believe the best stories are the ones that stay with you long after you've turned the last page. The ones that make you question what you would do in that situation. The ones that have you texting your friends at 2 AM saying "OMG, you have to read this!" (Sorry not sorry for those late-night messages.)

To my readers: thank you for joining me on this journey into the darker side of human nature. Your messages, theories, and occasional threats about plot twists make this all worthwhile. I love hearing from you, even when you're yelling at me about that ending. (Yes, THAT ending. I know what I did.)
