Hey there! I'm Emma Richards, and I write the kind of dark romance that probably shouldn't live rent-free in your head... but it will. (Sorry not sorry about that.)

Let me start by saying I never expected to become an author. I was that quiet girl in the back of the class, scribbling stories in notebooks and dreaming up twisted tales that would've gotten me some seriously concerned looks from my teachers. Growing up in a small town near Munich, Germany, I always felt like the odd one out – you know, the girl who preferred writing about morally gray characters while everyone else was living their normal teenage lives.

Writing in both German and English has become my superpower (though sometimes my characters refuse to stick to just one language, the rebellious little devils). When I published "Tales of Hate and Passion" in 2025, I knew I was taking a risk. It's not your typical romance – it's darker, grittier, and definitely walks that fine line between love and obsession. But here's the thing: those are exactly the stories I always wanted to read.

My writing style? Think Gothic romance meets modern psychological thriller, with a healthy dose of "I shouldn't be rooting for this character but HERE WE ARE." I love exploring the shadows of human nature, those gray areas where right and wrong blur together like watercolors in the rain. My characters aren't heroes – they're complicated, messy, and sometimes downright problematic. (Kind of like real people, minus the body count... usually.)

"Tales of Hate and Passion" is just the beginning of what I hope will be a long journey into the darker side of romance. It's the first book in my upcoming series, and let me tell you, the feedback so far has been... interesting. Some readers get it completely, while others probably think I need therapy. (Plot twist: maybe both groups are right?)

When I'm not writing scenes that make my beta readers text me in all caps, you can find me wandering through old Bavarian castles, collecting vintage books, or trying to convince my cat that my laptop keyboard is not, in fact, the most comfortable spot in the house. She remains unconvinced.

Fair warning: I'm terrible at social media (seriously, how do people tweet every day?), but I love connecting with readers through my newsletter and the occasional Instagram post when my cat isn't hogging the camera. I'm always excited to hear from readers who get sucked into my dark little world – it makes me feel less alone in my slightly twisted imagination.

Currently, I'm working on the next books in the series, and let's just say things are going to get even more intense. If "Tales of Hate and Passion" pushed boundaries, the upcoming books are going to shatter them completely. (My mom has stopped asking to read my drafts, which is probably for the best.)
