H D Carlton

Dark Romance Author

Hey there, dark hearts! I'm H D Carlton, and I write the kind of twisted psychological thrillers that'll make you question your own moral compass (and probably your sanity too). Fair warning: my books aren't for the faint of heart. I take pride in pushing boundaries and making readers squirm.

Let me tell you, I never expected to become known for writing dark romance that borders on psychological horror. I was that quiet kid in the back of class, scribbling stories in notebooks that would've gotten me sent straight to the school counselor if anyone had read them. But here we are! My twisted little brain finally found its perfect outlet.

My journey into publishing wasn't exactly conventional. I spent years working various jobs, collecting people's stories and dark secrets (okay, maybe not actual secrets, but I'm naturally nosy and love observing human nature in all its messy glory). All those experiences shaped the complex characters and psychological elements that are now my trademark.

If you've read "Phantom" or "Where's Molly," you know I don't shy away from the darker sides of desire and obsession. The Cat & Mouse Duet universe has become my playground for exploring the thin line between love and madness. When I started writing Molly's story, I knew it had to be even more intense than what came before. There's something intoxicating about creating characters who are walking disasters but somehow make you root for them anyway.

My writing style? Think Gothic romance meets psychological thriller meets "holy crap, I can't believe she went there." I love unreliable narrators, morally grey characters (okay, sometimes straight-up villains), and plot twists that'll give you whiplash. If you're looking for sweet, cookie-cutter romance, you're definitely in the wrong place!

I write at night, usually fueled by way too much coffee and true crime podcasts (my browser history would probably get me put on some kind of watch list). My cats judge me silently from across the room as I type out scenes that would make most people uncomfortable. But that's where the magic happens, right? In those dark corners of our imagination we usually try to avoid.

To my readers - you beautiful, twisted souls - thank you for diving into these dark waters with me. Your messages about staying up all night to finish my books (sorry not sorry about those work days you've ruined) make all the late-night writing sessions worth it. I love how you've created this amazing community where we can all be our delightfully disturbed selves together.

When I'm not writing, I'm probably binge-watching psychological thrillers, adding to my ever-growing collection of true crime books, or plotting new ways to torment my characters (and by extension, you readers). My family has learned to accept my slightly concerning dinner conversation topics, though they still give me worried looks sometimes when I get too excited about discussing murder methods.

Here's what you can expect from my books: complex psychological warfare, dangerous attraction, characters who probably need therapy (don't we all?), and endings that'll haunt you for days. I believe the best stories are the ones that make you feel uncomfortable but unable to look away - like watching a beautiful car crash in slow motion.

Fair warning: my books come with trigger warnings for a reason. I explore dark themes, toxic relationships, and the kind of love that's probably more like obsession. But if you're brave enough to venture into my world, I promise to make it worth your while. Just maybe keep the lights on while reading.

Want to join our dark little family? You can find me on social media, where I share snippets of works in progress, behind-the-scenes peeks at my writing process, and probably too many photos of my cats judging my life choices. Come say hi - we don't bite (much).

Remember: Life's too short for boring books. Let's get weird together.

(P.S. If you're wondering whether that particularly disturbing scene was inspired by real events... I'll never tell. 😈)
