Hi there! I'm H.D. Carlton, and I write the kind of dark romance that probably shouldn't turn you on... but absolutely will. (Don't worry, we're all a little twisted here.)

I've always been fascinated by the shadowy corners of human nature—those deliciously dark impulses we're not supposed to talk about in polite company. Growing up, I devoured every psychological thriller and true crime story I could get my hands on. Little did I know I'd end up writing stories that blend those darker elements with scorching romance in ways that make some people clutch their pearls. But hey, the best stories live in those gray areas, right?

When I started writing the Cat & Mouse duet (Haunting Adeline and Hunting Adeline), I knew I wanted to create something that would push boundaries and make readers question everything they thought they knew about romance. I mean, who doesn't love a good stalker romance? (Okay, maybe don't answer that...) But seriously, there's something intoxicating about exploring those taboo dynamics—the predator and prey, the hunter and hunted, the fine line between obsession and love.

My writing style? Raw. Intense. Unapologetically dark. I don't believe in watering things down or playing it safe. Life isn't clean and pretty, so why should our fiction be? I write complex characters who live in the shadows, anti-heroes who probably need therapy more than they need love (but they're getting both, whether they like it or not). And yes, there will be spice. The kind that makes you fan yourself while simultaneously questioning your life choices. You're welcome.

The success of the Cat & Mouse duet on TikTok honestly blew me away. Who knew so many other people wanted to explore these darker themes? But that's the beauty of this community—finding your people who understand that it's okay to enjoy fictional darkness while being a perfectly normal person in real life. (Well, mostly normal. We're all a little unhinged here.)

When I'm not writing morally gray characters doing questionable things, you might find me binge-watching true crime documentaries, adding to my collection of oddities, or spoiling my cats (who are definitely judging my browser history). I believe the best stories come from pushing boundaries and asking "what if?"—even when those questions make us uncomfortable.

To my readers: thank you for being brave enough to walk into the darkness with me. For understanding that sometimes the most beautiful love stories bloom in the darkest places. For trusting me to take you places other authors might fear to tread. The messages I get from you about staying up all night to finish my books (sorry about those work meetings you dozed through) make every intense writing session worth it.
