The House of Gable: A Science Fiction Dark Fantasy Romance

Hey there! I'm Helen King, and I write the kind of dark fantasy romance that would make my high school English teacher both proud and slightly concerned. (She always said I had an "unusually vivid imagination" – turns out she was right!)
Growing up surrounded by both science fiction and Gothic romance novels, I always wondered what would happen if we smashed those worlds together. You know, like what if Jane Eyre met Blade Runner? That's basically where my brain lives now, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I stumbled into writing almost by accident. I spent years working in tech (yes, I was that person coding during lunch breaks while scribbling plot ideas in the margins of my notebooks), but stories kept haunting me. They wouldn't leave me alone until I finally gave in and started writing them down. The House of Gable was born from one of those 3 AM ideas that just wouldn't quit.
When it comes to my writing style, I'm all about blending genres until they create something new and slightly dangerous. Think Gothic mansions with AI butlers, forbidden romance with a side of quantum physics, and family curses that might just be advanced technology we don't understand yet. I love playing in that shadowy space where science fiction and dark fantasy hold hands and decide to cause some trouble.
The House of Gable is my first published novel, and it's my dark, twisted baby. It's the story I always wanted to read but could never find on the shelves. If you're looking for a romance that questions the nature of reality while also making you fall in love with characters you probably shouldn't trust (but will anyway), you're in the right place. I wrote it for readers who, like me, want their love stories served with a side of existential crisis and a dash of "what the hell did I just read?"
When I'm not writing, you can usually find me hunting down vintage sci-fi paperbacks at used bookstores (my collection is getting slightly out of hand), attempting to teach my cat quantum physics (she's not impressed), or experimenting with AI art generators to visualize my worlds (with varying degrees of success – sometimes the results are more horror than romance).
I believe in writing stories that don't fit neatly into boxes. My characters are complicated, my worlds are intricate, and my romances are never quite what you expect. I mix darkness with hope, science with magic, and love with danger until the lines blur and something beautiful emerges from the chaos.
To my readers: expect the unexpected. I promise to take you on journeys that challenge both your heart and your mind. My books aren't always comfortable, but they're always honest. They're for the dreamers who like their happiness hard-won, their science fictional, and their romance with teeth.
I'm currently working on my next project (which may or may not involve parallel universes and a very morally questionable AI), and I can't wait to share more stories with you. The worlds in my head are endless, and I'm just getting started.
Want to connect? You can find me on social media, where I regularly post about my writing process, share snippets of upcoming work, and geek out about everything from quantum mechanics to Gothic architecture. Fair warning: I also share way too many pictures of my cat "helping" me write (mostly by sitting on my keyboard at crucial moments).
Thank you for joining me on this weird, wonderful journey. Let's explore these dark and beautiful worlds together.
P.S. If you've read The House of Gable and are wondering if that ending means what you think it means... well, let's just say reality is more flexible than we think. 😉
