Jada McCrary

Dark Romance Author

Hey there! I'm Jada McCrary, and I write dark fantasy romance that probably shouldn't be read in public (unless you're really good at controlling your facial expressions). Fair warning: my books tend to feature morally questionable fae, complicated relationships, and the kind of tension that makes readers throw their Kindles across the room. In a good way, I hope.

Writing has always been my escape, but I never thought I'd end up creating worlds where the Unseelie Court meets modern snark. Growing up, I devoured everything from Holly Black to Sarah J. Maas, always wondering what would happen if we pushed those boundaries just a little further. Okay, a lot further. (My mom still hasn't read my books, and honestly? That's probably for the best.)

My debut novel, "Of Fae and Wicked Kings," started as a late-night "what if" that wouldn't leave me alone. You know those ideas that grab you at 3 AM and refuse to let go? Yeah, this one had me writing scenes on my phone in the grocery store checkout line. I'm pretty sure the cashier thought I was having a crisis. They weren't entirely wrong.

I write the kind of romance that walks the line between light and shadow, where the heroes might actually be villains (and the villains are definitely not sorry). My characters tend to make terrible decisions for all the right reasons, and sometimes the right reasons for all the wrong decisions. If you're looking for a sweet, simple love story... um, maybe try the next aisle over?

When I'm not torturing characters (professionally, I swear), I'm probably drinking way too much coffee, trying to convince my cat she's not actually in charge of my writing schedule (I'm losing that battle), or researching obscure folklore that may or may not end up in my next book. Did you know there are Irish faeries who literally drink wine through their elbows? That's not in my books yet, but just wait.

My writing style? Think dark chocolate with chili peppers – sweet enough to keep you coming back, but with a kick that might make you sweat. I love playing with expectations, especially when it comes to power dynamics and consent in fantasy romance. And yes, there will be spice. The kind that makes you check twice to make sure no one's reading over your shoulder.

To my readers (hi!), you're the reason I keep pushing boundaries and exploring the darker sides of fantasy romance. Your messages about staying up until 4 AM to finish "just one more chapter" are literally what fuel my coffee addiction. When you tell me you threw your book across the room because of that chapter (you know the one), I consider that a job well done.

What can you expect from my books? Morally grey characters who definitely shouldn't be attractive but absolutely are. Sexual tension that could power a small city. Plot twists that will either make you gasp or swear at me on social media (I accept both reactions with equal joy). And underneath it all, stories about finding love in the darkest places – even if that love comes with sharp teeth and questionable intentions.

Fair warning: I don't do simple happily-ever-afters. My characters work for their happiness, usually through several hundred pages of bad decisions and intense chemistry. But I promise the journey is worth it. (And if you're still mad about that one scene in chapter 23, I totally understand. I cried writing it too.)

Currently, I'm working on my next book, which may or may not involve a cursed library, an immortal librarian with a grudge, and the kind of romance that definitely violates several library policies. My cat says it's her favorite so far, but she's biased because one of the characters feeds her treats.

Want to join me on this slightly unhinged journey through the darker side of fantasy romance? You can find me on Instagram and TikTok, where I post writing updates, behind-the-scenes peeks at my research (the weird stuff that doesn't make it into the books), and occasional videos of my cat judging my life choices.

Remember: life's too short for boring books. Let's get weird together. 🖤
