Sleeping People Lie

Hi! I'm Jae De Wylde, and I write stories that dance in the shadows between romance and psychological suspense. (Yes, it's as deliciously complicated as it sounds.)
I never set out to be a writer, actually. Life had other plans for me - isn't that always the way? After years of working in marketing and communications, I found myself increasingly drawn to the stories that kept bubbling up in my mind. You know those characters who show up uninvited and refuse to leave until you tell their tale? That's exactly what happened with Sloane, the protagonist of my debut novel "Sleeping People Lie."
Speaking of which, let's talk about my writing style. I'm fascinated by the lies we tell ourselves and others - those pretty little deceptions that start small but can spiral into something far more dangerous. My stories tend to weave between London, Paris, and Boston (three cities that have stolen pieces of my heart), and I love exploring how location shapes both character and destiny.
"Sleeping People Lie" follows Sloane, a vivacious 26-year-old from Stamford, as she falls for Nicholas, an American artist and writer who seems almost too perfect. (Spoiler alert: if something seems too good to be true in one of my books, it probably is!) Their story is a maze of passion, secrets, and unexpected turns that will keep you guessing until the very last page.
I write for readers who love their romance with a hefty side of suspense - the kind who don't mind staying up way too late because they "just need to read one more chapter." My characters are complex, flawed, and sometimes make terrible decisions (don't we all?), but that's what makes them real.
When I'm not writing, you'll find me wandering through European cities with a notebook in hand, people-watching in cafés (writers are professional eavesdroppers, after all), or curled up with a good book and an even better cup of tea. I'm particularly fond of rainy days - they're perfect for both writing and reading, don't you think?
My approach to storytelling is pretty straightforward: I believe in creating characters who feel like real people, situations that could actually happen (even if we hope they don't), and plot twists that make sense but still manage to surprise. I'm not interested in writing the same story everyone else is telling - I want to explore the grey areas, the uncomfortable truths, and the moments that change everything.
What can you expect from my books? Atmospheric settings that become characters in their own right. Relationships that aren't always what they seem. Psychological tension that builds slowly but surely. And endings that might not be traditionally "happy," but are always satisfying. (Life's complicated - why shouldn't our stories be too?)
I'm incredibly grateful for every reader who takes a chance on my work. There's something magical about knowing my words have found their way into someone else's world, maybe keeping them company on a long flight or providing escape during a lunch break. If you've read "Sleeping People Lie" or are thinking about picking it up, thank you. Really. Writers might work in solitude, but stories only come alive when they're shared.
Want to connect? I love hearing from readers! You can find me on social media or through my website. Fair warning though - I might try to convince you to tell me your favorite city, best-kept secret, or most interesting lie. (Research purposes only, I promise!)
Here's to the stories that keep us up at night, the characters who feel like friends, and the readers who make it all possible. Thanks for being part of my writing journey.
(P.S. Yes, Jae De Wylde is my real name. No, I won't tell you the story behind it... at least not until we know each other better!)
