Hi there! I'm Jan Zimlich, and I've been writing steamy sci-fi romance since back when people still thought the year 2000 would make all our computers explode. (Remember Y2K panic? Yeah, those were interesting times...)
I started writing stories in my beat-up spiral notebooks during high school, usually featuring dashing space pirates and the fierce women who could bring them to their knees. My teachers probably should have been concerned about all the intergalactic seduction scenes I was scribbling during math class, but hey – I turned out okay! Those early stories were... let's just say "experimental." But they planted the seed for what would become my true passion: crafting dark, sensual romances set against the infinite canvas of space.
My debut novel "Heart's Prey" (1998) threw readers into a world where assassins fall for warlords and nothing is quite what it seems. I love exploring those dangerous edges where attraction meets survival, where my characters have to decide if love is worth risking everything for. (Spoiler alert: in my books, it usually is – but the path there is never easy!)
When I'm not writing about smoldering space warriors and the women who challenge them, I'm probably watching old sci-fi shows for "research" purposes. Farscape, Firefly, Babylon 5 – they're my guilty pleasures and proud inspiration. There's something magical about combining the endless possibilities of space with the timeless pull of romance. Plus, zero gravity opens up some interesting... opportunities. Just saying.
I write the kind of stories I always wanted to read: where the heroines are complex and capable, the heroes are dangerously appealing, and the sexual tension could power a small starship. My characters tend to be stubborn, passionate, and prone to getting themselves into impossible situations. (Wonder where they get that from?) But they always find their way to their happily ever after, even if they have to fight through a few space battles to get there.
Fair warning: my books aren't your typical sweet romance. I like my stories how I like my coffee – dark, hot, and strong enough to wake you up. You'll find complex power dynamics, morally gray characters, and scenes that might make you fan yourself while looking over your shoulder to make sure no one's reading over it.
To my amazing readers who've supported me through this journey – thank you. You're the reason I keep pushing boundaries and exploring new worlds. Your messages about staying up way too late to finish "just one more chapter" make my day every time.
Currently, I'm working on new stories that push even further into the darkness of space and the depths of desire. Because let's be honest – the universe is infinite, and so are the possibilities for finding love in the most unexpected places.
Want to join me on this adventure? Grab your favorite beverage (you might need it), find a comfy spot to read, and prepare yourself for stories that'll make you question everything you thought you knew about love among the stars. Just remember: in space, no one can hear you swoon... but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.
Looking forward to sharing more dangerous liaisons and steamy encounters with you all. Until then, keep watching the stars – that's where all the best stories happen.
(P.S. – If you're wondering about the technical accuracy of certain zero-gravity scenes in my books... well, a writer never reveals ALL her research methods. Let's just say imagination is a wonderful thing!)
