Hey there, dark souls and beautiful monsters. I'm K.V. Rose, and I write the kind of romance that makes your mama clutch her pearls and your book club raise their eyebrows. (Don't worry - those are exactly the reactions we're going for.)
Let me tell you a secret: I never meant to write dark romance. I started out thinking I'd write "normal" love stories, you know? Boy meets girl, they fall in love, maybe there's a misunderstanding about who ate the last cookie, but it all works out in the end. But then these characters started whispering in my head - broken, dangerous, utterly unapologetic characters who refused to play by the rules. And honestly? They were way more interesting than any cookie-stealing plot I could dream up.
My journey into the darker side of romance started with my own obsession with gothic literature and psychological thrillers. I'd spend hours curled up with books about haunted houses, twisted minds, and the thin line between love and obsession. (My therapist probably has some thoughts about this, but we don't need to go there.) When I finally put pen to paper - or fingers to keyboard, because let's be real, my handwriting looks like a drunk spider had a dance party - those influences came pouring out.
"Break Me" was my first dive into the deep end, and wow, did Benji ever make a splash. He's the kind of character that made me nervous to write, because he lives in that delicious gray area where you're not sure if you should root for him or run from him. (Spoiler alert: most readers end up doing both.) The story explores what happens when attraction collides with danger, and when redemption might not look the way society tells us it should.
Then came "These Monstrous Ties," which is basically what happens when you take Halloween, add a dash of Paradise Lost, and throw in enough sexual tension to power a small city. I wrote Lilith and Lucifer's story during a particularly dark October when I was living alone in an old Victorian house that definitely had ghosts. (They were very supportive of my writing, though. Shout out to Margaret the friendly ghost who kept turning my coffee maker on at 3 AM.)
My writing style? Think Gothic romance meets modern psychological thriller, with a healthy dose of "I probably shouldn't be this attracted to the villain" energy. I love exploring the shadows of human nature, those places where desire meets danger and where love isn't always healthy but it's always intense. My characters aren't good people, and I won't apologize for that. They're complicated, messy, and sometimes downright terrible - but they love with a passion that burns everything in its path.
When I'm not writing about morally questionable romance, you can find me wandering through old cemeteries for "research" (okay, and because they're peaceful), collecting vintage skeleton keys (I have over 200 now - send help), and trying to convince my black cat, Poe, that my laptop is not his personal heating pad. He remains unconvinced.
To my readers: you beautiful, twisted souls who get it, who understand why the monsters are sometimes more appealing than the heroes - thank you. You make it possible for me to keep exploring these dark corners of romance without holding back. Your messages about staying up until 4 AM to finish one more chapter (sorry not sorry) or your theories about what really happened in that cryptic epilogue make my whole day.
What can you expect from my books? Raw emotion. Dangerous attraction. Characters who will haunt you long after you close the book. Scenes that might make you squirm but will definitely make you feel. And always, always a love story - even if it's the kind that comes with warning labels.
Fair warning: my books aren't for everyone. If you're looking for sweet, wholesome romance, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you like your love stories with sharp edges and darker themes, if you believe that sometimes the most intense love can come from the most damaged souls - well, pull up a chair. We're going to have fun together.
Currently working on my next book (which may or may not involve a cursed music box, a possibly immortal antique dealer, and a love triangle that definitely ends in blood). Stay dark, stay beautiful, and remember - the best stories are always written in the shadows.
xo, K.V. Rose
P.S. Poe says hi. (Actually, he says "get off the laptop and feed me," but we're pretending it's hi.)
