Hey there, shadow seekers! I'm Laura Vale, and I write dark paranormal romance where magic isn't just pretty sparkles and cute spells—it's the force that literally tore our world apart and stitched it back together wrong. (Spoiler alert: sometimes wrong is exactly right.)

I've always been that weird kid who preferred thunderstorms to sunshine and found beauty in broken things. Growing up, I filled notebooks with stories about parallel worlds where magic leaked through the cracks of reality. My teachers were... concerned, to say the least. But those early scribblings turned into my lifelong obsession with exploring what happens when humanity faces forces beyond its control.

Let's be real—I never expected to actually publish these dark little tales that live in my head. I spent years working in corporate marketing (soul-crushing, do not recommend) while writing late into the night about witches reshaping reality and humans discovering their own twisted magic. Then 2023 hit me like a freight train of "what am I doing with my life?" and I finally decided to unleash my first book into the world.

"Her Shadows to Bear" is my debut novel, and it's exactly the kind of story I always wanted to read but could never find. It's set in Eden—Earth's magical apocalyptic remix—where Witches didn't just change the world, they fundamentally altered what it means to be human. (And yes, I absolutely refuse to write Witches with a lowercase 'w' because they'd probably turn me into something unpleasant if I did.)

My stories aren't your typical paranormal romance. You won't find any sparkly vampires or werewolves who conveniently only turn furry on full moons. Instead, you'll discover morally gray characters navigating a world where magic is beautiful, terrible, and absolutely necessary for survival. There's steam (obviously—I'm not a monster), but there's also psychological horror, complex power dynamics, and questions about humanity that might keep you up at night. You've been warned.

When I'm not writing about magical apocalypses, you can find me wandering through old bookstores, collecting weird artifacts that probably shouldn't be in my house, and trying to convince my cat she's not actually a Witch's familiar. (She remains unconvinced.) I live in the Pacific Northwest where the constant rain and moody forests fuel my imagination—and yes, I absolutely believe there's magic in these woods.

Fair warning: I write slow. Like, really slow. Quality over quantity is my mantra, and I'd rather take my time crafting something unique than rush out cookie-cutter stories. Each book is a piece of my soul (dramatically dark as it may be), and I pour everything into creating immersive worlds that feel real enough to step into.

My books aren't for everyone—and that's exactly how I like it.
