Hey there! I'm Sabrina Rowan, and I write dark fantasy romance that'll make you question everything you thought you knew about good and evil. (Spoiler alert: the line between them is way blurrier than you'd think.)
I've always been a sucker for stories where the ocean meets mythology, where power corrupts, and where love blooms in the most dangerous places. Growing up on the coast, I spent countless hours staring at the waves, making up stories about what lurked beneath them. Turns out, those childhood daydreams would eventually become the foundation for my writing career. Who knew all those hours getting sand in my shoes would actually pay off?
My journey to becoming an author wasn't exactly a straight line. I studied marine biology in college (because apparently, I really can't stay away from the ocean), worked as a museum curator, and spent way too many nights reading fantasy books until 3 AM. It wasn't until I found myself scribbling story ideas on the backs of museum pamphlets that I realized maybe I should give this writing thing a real shot.
When it comes to my books, I'm all about creating complex, morally gray characters who are forced to navigate treacherous political waters while fighting their own inner demons. My debut novel "Invalid" introduces readers to Layla Dagon, a character who literally wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote her story. She showed up in my dreams, demanding to be heard, and honestly? I'm kind of terrified of her, so I had to comply.
The Throne series (starting with "Invalid" and continuing with "Take the Throne") is my love letter to everything I'm passionate about – fierce heroines who don't need saving (but might save everyone else), political intrigue that'll keep you guessing, and romance that burns slowly but intensely. Think enemies-to-lovers with a side of "oh no, they're actually going to destroy each other, aren't they?" (But in the best possible way, I promise!)
I write the kind of books I always wanted to read but could never find – stories where the sea is as much a character as the people, where magic has a price that might be too steep to pay, and where love doesn't necessarily redeem the villain (but might make them more interesting). If you're looking for neat, tidy endings where everyone lives happily ever after... well, I might not be your girl. But if you want stories that'll keep you up at night, wondering what happens next and possibly questioning your own moral compass? Pull up a chair!
When I'm not writing, you can usually find me wandering along the beach collecting shells (and plot ideas), attempting to keep my collection of plants alive (current success rate: 60%), or explaining to my cat why she can't walk across my keyboard while I'm writing crucial scenes. (She remains unconvinced of my reasoning.)
I believe the best stories are the ones that make us uncomfortable in the best way possible – the ones that force us to look at ourselves and ask, "What would I do in that situation?" And then maybe make us a little worried about the answer. My characters aren't heroes or villains; they're people making impossible choices in impossible situations. And sometimes those choices have consequences that ripple through generations.
To my readers: thank you for joining me on this journey through treacherous waters and thorny crowns. Your messages about staying up all night to finish "Invalid" or your theories about what's coming in "Take the Throne" make all those late-night writing sessions worth it. (Even if my cat disagrees about the reduction in her attention time.)
Fair warning: I'm known to drop random sea facts into my social media posts, get way too excited about mythology references, and occasionally go on long rants about the proper way to write morally gray characters. If any of that sounds like your cup of tea (or glass of wine – I don't judge), come hang out with me! Let's talk about books, the ocean, and why the best villains are the ones we can't help but love.
And remember – in my worlds, the most dangerous thing isn't always the monster in the deep. Sometimes it's the crown on your head, the magic in your blood, or the person you're falling for despite every instinct telling you to run.
Welcome to my dark and stormy corner of the literary world. The water's fine... probably.
