Sankalita Roy
Dark Romance Author
Hey there! I'm Sankalita Roy, and I write dark psychological romance that digs into the messy reality of toxic relationships and mental health. (Yes, I'm that author who makes you question everything you thought you knew about love and human nature.)
Growing up in India, I was always fascinated by the complex dynamics of relationships – the ones that nobody talks about at family gatherings. You know, the stuff that gets swept under those beautifully woven Persian rugs? Yeah, those stories. I spent years working in corporate consulting, watching power dynamics and manipulation play out in board rooms and break rooms. Let's just say it gave me plenty of material to work with.
My debut novel "Olive Green" came from a place of raw honesty about narcissistic relationships and mental health struggles. I got tired of seeing #narcissist trending on social media without any real understanding of the psychological depth behind it. (Don't even get me started on those TikTok "experts" diagnosing everyone's ex.) I wanted to write something that showed both sides of the story – because let's face it, human nature isn't black and white, and neither are our relationships.
When you pick up one of my books, be prepared for: - Characters who are beautifully broken (and sometimes stay that way) - Psychological twists that'll make you question your own judgment - Raw, unflinching looks at mental health - Cultural elements woven through dark romance - Zero sugar-coating of toxic relationships - Some seriously uncomfortable truths about human nature
I'm not here to write feel-good romance where everything works out perfectly in the end. Life's not like that, and neither are my books. I write for readers who want to explore the darker corners of the human psyche, who aren't afraid to sit with discomfort and question their own assumptions about love and relationships.
When I'm not writing, you'll find me reading psychology journals (yes, I'm that kind of nerd), practicing yoga (gotta balance out all that darkness somehow), or having deep conversations with my cat about character development. She's my harshest critic, I swear.
My writing process involves lots of research, countless cups of masala chai, and usually some sort of existential crisis about human nature. I believe the best stories come from that uncomfortable space where reality meets fiction, where we're forced to confront the parts of ourselves we'd rather ignore.
To my readers: thank you for being brave enough to explore these darker themes with me. Your messages about how my work has helped you understand your own experiences or those of someone you love mean everything. I'm always hanging out on Instagram (@sankalitaroy) where we can chat about books, mental health, or why my cat keeps trying to delete my manuscripts.
Fair warning: my books aren't for everyone. If you're looking for light, fluffy romance, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you're ready to dive deep into the psychology of toxic love, question everything you think you know about relationships, and maybe learn something about yourself in the process – welcome to my world. We're going to have an interesting journey together.
Currently working on my next novel (between cat interruptions and chai breaks), which promises to be even more psychologically twisted than "Olive Green." Because apparently, I can't help pushing boundaries and making readers uncomfortable in the best possible way.
Remember: sometimes the most important stories are the ones that make us squirm. Those are the ones I'm here to tell.
