Suzy Borello

Dark Romance Author

Hey beautiful dark souls! I'm Suzy Borello, and I write the kind of romance that makes your mama clutch her pearls and your book club raise their eyebrows. (But they'll secretly binge-read it under the covers anyway.)

Let me tell you, I never set out to write stories that would make people simultaneously swoon and squirm. Growing up in a strict Italian-American family where romance novels were definitely NOT on the approved reading list, I spent way too many nights hiding under my blankets with a flashlight and dog-eared copies of seriously questionable books. Those forbidden stories sparked something in me that never quite went away.

After years of working in corporate finance (yeah, talk about soul-crushing), I finally gave in to the dark characters who wouldn't shut up in my head. They demanded their stories be told, and who was I to argue? My first manuscript was... well, let's just say it's buried so deep in my hard drive that even my therapist couldn't find it. But it taught me something crucial: I'm not here to write safe, cookie-cutter romance. I'm here to push boundaries and explore the shadowy corners of desire that most people pretend don't exist.

My Pure Corruption series kicked off with "Vice et Vertu," introducing readers to Arthur Kilian – the kind of anti-hero who makes you question your entire moral compass. (Don't worry, we're all going to therapy together.) The series dives deep into the world of motorcycle gangs, corruption, and the kind of love that burns so hot it leaves scars. When The Romance Reviews called it a must-read for dark romance fans, I may have screamed into my pillow for an hour. Just saying.

Then there's my Dollars series, starting with "Pennies" – honestly, the book that keeps me up at night even though I wrote it. It's the darkest thing I've written so far, and that's saying something. It's not for everyone, and that's exactly how I want it. This story explores themes that make some readers uncomfortable, but it's also about survival, redemption, and finding light in the darkest places.

Look, here's the deal: I write broken characters. Morally grey (okay, sometimes straight-up black) heroes who probably need more therapy than romance. Heroines who aren't perfect victims but complex survivors. My books aren't cute meet-cutes or sweet rom-coms. They're raw, intense, and sometimes painful – but I promise you'll feel everything.

When I'm not torturing characters (and readers), you'll find me in my home office in Boston, surrounded by empty coffee cups and my rescue pit bull, Dante. (Yes, I named him after the guy who wrote about the nine circles of Hell. Fitting, right?) I'm fueled by espresso, true crime podcasts, and the occasional glass of red wine. Or bottle. No judgment here.

To my readers: you beautiful, twisted souls who get it – thank you. You understand that sometimes the most powerful love stories come from the darkest places. Your messages, theories, and occasional death threats when I leave you on cliffhangers mean everything to me. You're my people.

Fair warning: if you're looking for sweet, safe romance, I'm not your girl. But if you want stories that'll keep you up all night, make you question your morals, and leave you thinking about the characters long after you close the book – welcome to my dark little corner of the romance world. We have cookies. And trauma. Lots of trauma.

Currently working on my next series (which might be even darker – I know, I didn't think it was possible either), and yes, there will be trigger warnings. I believe in letting readers make informed choices about what they read. Your emotional safety matters to me, even while I'm writing stories that'll wreck you emotionally.

Want to join my dark side? You can find me on Instagram where I post way too many teasers and pictures of Dante, or join my newsletter for exclusive content and first dibs on new releases. Just don't blame me when you fall in love with characters your therapist would definitely warn you about.

Welcome to the darkness. We're going to have fun here.

(P.S. My mom still hasn't read my books. And that's probably for the best.)
